Sublo and Tangy Mustard ABP photos

The Sublo and Tangy Mustard retrospective screening at Animation Block Party went great! I'm so grateful to everybody who came, asked questions and hung out afterward. The whole weekend was a blur, in the best way possible. I had an amazing time hanging with old friends, making new ones, eating tasty food, seeing cool stuff and feeling lots of love for what we've been doing with S&TM over the years. (not that the show is done, still working on new episodes!) We filmed the Q&A and I'll be posting at least some of it online as soon as possible. Here are some pics from the weekend:

We signed some stuff and I scribbled out some drawings.
Here's us doing the panel, moderated by Mike Hollingsworth (my friend and boss for years on Triptank, Bojack Horseman, Tuca & Bertie and an indie animator himself).

Excited for TAAFI!

TAAFI is less than two weeks away, and I'm really excited for it! My short "Fester Goes Fishing" is going to be screened as part of the "Shorts 1 - Straight Up Toons" package, and there are a whole bunch of amazing things going on throughout the weekend. I'll be at the following events:

-"Nelvana Bouncing Ball party" on Fri. July 6
-"John K and Cartoony Animation" panel on Sat. July 7
-"Indie Animators: Making it Work" panel on Sat. July 7
-"Rock and Rule" screening on Sat. July 7
-"Style vs. Design" panel on Sun. July 8
-"Shorts 3 - Stylin'" on Sun. July 8
-"Shorts 1 - Straight Up Toons" on Sun. July 8

I'm looking forward to seeing some fantastic animation up on the big screen at the TIFF Lightbox, the greatest theater in Toronto. See you there!

Almost Done, But...

Well, I didn't end up finishing the Fester Fish cartoon for last night. I was pretty close, but I ran out of time, and decided to just submit the first episode of Space Goose instead, since I just had a DVD copy lying around.

I'd been hesitant to submit Space Goose to previous Drop Your Shorts festivals, for a few reasons. I feel like the other film-makers, who probably comprise most of the audience, might be annoyed that it's a cartoon, like "hey, that doesn't belong with our serious angsty black-and-white dramas!" They also might be put off by the fact that it's science-fiction. More than anything else, it's clearly not intended as a short film, but rather as part of a TV-style episodic series.

Oh well. The guy who runs the festival seemed happy to see another submission from me. He liked Slick Nick when I submitted back in 2008, and he even used it again at a "Best of" special screening.

The Fester Fish short will still be done soon, because I want to submit it to another show tomorrow at the Toronto Animated Images Society, but this time it'll actually be ready. I've only got a couple of hours of work left to do on it.

"Fugitive Goose" will be screened at the Revue Cinema on Wed. May 19 at 7:00. Admission is $2.
